IONSx s.underneath<\/sup> is a cutting-edge, application-driven \nresearch program that demonstrates practical examples of consciousness \naffecting our physical world. One of the major hurdles to moving beyond \nour materialistic paradigm is the difficulty of being able to clearly \ndemonstrate to anyone, without the use of scientific arguments, the \nreality that consciousness directly affects the physical world. We can \nshow examples of this in laboratory studies with statistics, but we have\n not been able to reliably demonstrate this with a real-world direct \nexperience that anyone could see with their naked eye. IONSx<\/sup> promises just that. One goal of IONSx<\/sup>\n is to create an ethical, consciousness-dependent switch that responds \nto a specific mental signal from the operator. By \nconsciousness-dependent we mean that it is not mediated by any \nconventional technology, electromagnetic or other physical force, and is\n non-local.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are exploring various aspects of our ATOM model for IONSx<\/sup>.\n The \u201cT\u201d in ATOM stands for Target or what the intention is being \ndirected at. Potential targets may include biological (cells), physical \n(photons, random events, water structure, etc.), or mental (human). We \nhave already begun testing high potential targets in optical physics \u2014 \nplasma ball, double slit, entangled photon, missing photon, and random \nnumber generators. The \u201cO\u201d stands for Operator or the person directing \nthe attention. We have an ongoing study examining the genetics of \npsychic ability and will begin recruitment for talented operators that \ncan reliably demonstrate a psychokinesis ability (the ability of their \nmind to influence matter). The \u201cM\u201d stands for Moderator or anything that\n influences the relationship between the operator and the target. There \nmay be any number of moderating factors that influence the \ntarget-operator system. Some of the known or suspected correlates \ninclude  geomagnetic flux, local weather, lunar cycle, and solar wind. \nThe \u201cA\u201d stands for amplification and analysis or anything that could \nhelp strengthen the interaction between the operator and target. We will\n examine analytical methods for maximizing the target\/operator \nrelationship, including, but not limited to, changes in fractal \ndimensions and chaotic attractors. We also have a beta version of an \ninfrastructure for online mind-matter experiments, accessible by any \nbrowser. This will allow us to test various ATOM models and roll out the\n experiments to a large number of participants and collaborate with \nother researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After establishing the optimal ATOM system, the third step is to \nengineer this system, making sure the ATOM is reliable, focused, \nintentful, and ethical. The final step would be to build a prototype and\n demonstrate the ATOM system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are a number of ethical issues that arise with IONSx<\/sup>.\n The IONS team is committed to addressing these issues every step of the\n way to help ensure that the switch can be \u201ctuned\u201d to unique individuals\n or groups (so it cannot be accidentally operated by anyone else). We \nacknowledge that it may not actually be possible to create an \noperator-specific ethical switch \u2014 meaning a switch that is able to \nisolate the intention of a given operator 100% of the time. \nNevertheless, we anticipate that focusing on the pragmatics of building \nsuch a device will inform us about key factors that influence the role \nof consciousness in the physical world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So what happens if we were to reliably demonstrate that our \nconsciousness influences our physical world? First, the idea that our \nconsciousness is limited to our physical world would be refuted. Second,\n our view of our own thoughts and intentions would need to be completely\n reevaluated. Would we be so quick to have negative thoughts about \nourselves and others if we knew they affected ourselves or other people \nin some way? Imagine a world where it was a given that our \nintention\/consciousness affected our physical world directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
